Ed began his career working in the construction industry with W.R. Hatch Builders in New Albany, Ohio, while attending college, and worked his way up to his position as Partner in the company, where he built and estimated custom homes in the $250k - $1 million+ range, and developed and managed a 168-acre site for single family housing.
Following his tenure with Hatch, Ed founded Burgan & Company in Johnstown, Ohio, where he drew upon his experience to manage a staff of 11 employees and increase revenue significantly in the company's second year. Drawing upon his success, Ed was recruited by and served five years as Development Services Manager with Columbus, Ohio-based Epmark, Inc., one of the country's largest designers and builders of luxury ranch-style condominiums created for the Active Adult homebuyer. During his tenure with Epmark, Ed more than doubled the number of licensees as he conducted training, site selection assistance programs. He also published Operations, Development and Construction manuals that promoted a standard of site selection, construction and development across the franchise.
Ed recognized the growing demand for Active Adult communities and enjoyed the experience of working with the Active Adult buyer, so after five years with Epmark, he established, owned and operated Gibeon Development Group, LLC, in South Carolina. His company catered to buyers who desired the carefree lifestyle associated with luxury ranch-style condominiums and single family, architecturally consistent homes in sought-after communities in South Carolina and North Carolina.
Among Ed's key strengths are a thorough understanding of every phase of the homebuilding industry – from initial site work to completion and occupancy by the homeowner – and the ability to build strong relationships with clients, architects and subcontractors that ensures each home is completed on-time and within budget. This combination has allowed Ed to keep a close eye on the homebuilding industry in South Carolina and to recognize the growing demand for single family homes created for the Active Adult buyer. He established Edwin Builders to meet the growing demand for quality single family detached garden homes, with attractive floor plans that emphasize luxury, maintenance-friendly living and accessibility.
